The facinating history of British Airways Engineering, from the earliest development of commercial civil aviation engineering in the early 1920s up to the present day.
With superb illustrations drawn from the archives of the British Airways Heritage Collection, Engineering an Airline tells the fascinating story of BA Engineering, from the earliest days of commercial aviation in the early 1920s to the present day. As the UK’s nationalised airline from 1924 until 1987 British Airways and its predecessor companies led UK civil aviation development. It is a story of technical skill, expertise and ingenuity. Curator of the Heritage Collection Paul Jarvis – who worked for over 50 years in various management positions at BOAC and British Airways – explains the complexities of running an aircraft fleet for as long as there’s been such a thing!

Paul Jarvis was the Assistant Company Secretary at British Airways between 1992 and 2003. Retiring in 2003 he volunteered for the honorary role as curator of the British Airways Heritage Collection. The role was to safeguard and preserve the Collection as a national resource and to develop its potential as a source of heritage information and knowledge to support British Airways’ business. Paul worked for nearly 50 years in various managerial roles at British Airways since joining BOAC, a predecessor company of British Airways, as a clerk on 6 June 1966. He wrote many books about British Airways history for Amberley Publishing.
