Dr. Kathleen Therese O'Connor-Eater is an Associate Professor of Modern Languages at SUNY College at Old Westbury. She received her Ph.D. in Spanish and Linguistics from Columbia University. Author Abstract: As a poetic translation, this volume is intended primarily for students of world literature wishing to gain insights into the scope and power of the poet's perspective as it evolved over the latter half of the nineteenth century up to the brink of World War I. As a bilingual anthology, the book will facilitate an understanding of Dario's works to speakers of English with some knowledge of Spanish who need assistance with the nuanced vocabulary and complex syntactic structures. The translations are theoretically grounded in various recent linguistic approaches to translation, including the structurally based approach developed by Malone (1988)' as well as the semantic-pragmatic approaches to cross language communication of Nida (1964) and DeWaard and Nida (1986).
