Stephanus von Byzanz: Stephani Byzantii Ethnica / Pi - Ypsilon

The Corpus Fontium Historiae Byzantinae includes texts written by Byzantine historiographers and chroniclers as well as other documents of historical relevance from the 4th to the 15th centuries. The main objective of each volume is the presentation of a critical text based on all extant manuscripts; a detailed introduction informing about the author and the work as well as the manuscripts and their relation to each other is included in addition to several apparatus and indices. Published around 530 AD, this comprehensive geographic lexicon documents approx. 3,600 names of places, mountains, bodies of water, and peoples of the ancient world. The new critical edition replaces the long-outdated edition by A. Meineke (1849). This unprecedented modern-language translation of the Ethnica and its annotations (on language, onomastics, and topography) assure that this work will be of interest to a broad range of scholars.
