Thoroughly revised in the light of recent scholarly discovery, this edition covers all the great prophetic figures, and also goes beyond the Old Testament to examine the role of prophecy in the New Testament.
The aim of this book is to give wide coverage of the Old Testament Prophets, their various messages, and their role in the biblical tradition. It is designed for the student and general reader, and encompasses full biblical references, without being overwhelmed by details of secondary sources. The book opens with an examination of the books of the prophets, both minor and major, and moves on to studying the vocation of the Prophets, their preaching, and the themes of salvation and judgement. The last two chapters cover the interpretation of prophecy in scribal tradition, in apocalyptic circles, and in the early Church.
