Improve your ability to cope with stress and challenges in the workplace with this coaching guide to developing mental resilience.
Mental toughness is about how effectively individuals deal with stress, pressure and challenge. It is rooted in the notion of resilience but moves beyond this by adding ideas from the world of positive psychology. The result is a complete process which is highly applicable and measurable. Tracing its development from sports psychology into business, health and education sectors, Developing Mental Toughness was the first book to look at applications at the organizational level and to provide a reliable psychometric measure.

The new edition of Developing Mental Toughness includes greater coverage of how mental toughness relates to other behaviours and can be applied to leadership, creativity, emotional intelligence, and motivation. It also looks at its applications in employability and entrepreneurship, and has expanded coverage of coaching for mental toughness. Written for anyone coaching individuals and teams for improved performance, the book contains practical guidance and techniques, exercises and case studies, all reflecting the exciting developments in this field over the last five years.

Doug Strycharczyk is Managing Director of AQR, a consultancy that works to improve the 'mental toughness' of organizations. Before he founded AQR in 1989 he held a variety of HR and consultancy roles in the private and public sectors. These include Castrol (UK) Limited, Goodyear Tyres, Decca Ltd, J Wedgwood Ltd and the Burton Group. He was the Head of Operations for Castrol (UK) Ltd at the same time as being Head of HR. He is the co-author of Developing Resilient Organizations with Charles Elvin and a contributor to Psychometrics in Coaching, also published by Kogan Page. Peter Clough is Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University and was the former Head of Psychology at Hull University. He is recognised as a leading applied academic authority on the subject of mental toughness. He is co-developer of the mental toughness model and the MTQ48 Mental Toughness Questionnaire. Peter has also contributed to Psychometrics in Coaching and Leadership Coaching, both published by Kogan Page.
