"Fulbrook's History of Germany is an excellent overview, clearly presented, and well written. Of particular strength is itscoverage of East Germany, which is comprehensive and balanced. Iteffectively complements primary source readings, lectures, and morespecialized articles. This fourth edition extends the coverage ofevents up through the present, and incisively covers thehistoriographical debates of recent years as well."--DavidG. Tompkins, Carleton College "This new edition is an indispensable guide to Germany'stortured 20th century history. Mary Fulbrook combines a stronghistorical narrative with in-depth historiographical analysis, andnever loses sight of the human dimension."--MarkAllinson, University of Bristol
