Language and Deafness

Can thought be like the lone tree falling in the forest making a sound that is not heard? That's the sort of question looked at in Language an Deafness. Just as it is difficult to describe a sound beyond hearing range, defining thought processes developed without the sound spoken words-requires creative investigation and analysis. In this work, the fields of cognitive science, artificial intelligence, anthropology, psychology, and sociology are informed in new and creative ways, based on the information presented about cognitive development, plus first- and second-language acquisition and bilingualism by the profoundly deaf.
