An American woman and her husband move to Jerusalem and discover the many faces of community, exile, and history. By focusing on the day-to-day rhythms of her close-knit neighborhood, Hoffman offers a refreshingly honest portrait of a place that is often reduced to generalization and cliche.
'A gracefully wrought, impressionistic portrait of life in a singular Jerusalem neighbourhood. Steadily perceptive and brimming with informed passion, Hoffman's account opens the shades on one of the most remarkable cities on earth' - Kirkus Review A lyrical evocation of Jerusalem that by focusing in microcosmic detail on the day-to-day rhythms of this close-knit community offers a rich, precise, and refreshingly honest portrait of a city that is often reduced to generalisations and cliches.

Adina Hoffman grew up in New Hampshire and Texas. In 2001 House of Windows was published. Her essays and criticism have appeared in The Washington Post, The Times Literary Supplement, The Boston Globe, New York Newsday, Tin House, CoExist Magazine, The Forward, and on the World Service of the BBC. Formerly a film critic for the American Prospect and The Jerusalem Post, she has worked as an editor and teacher and been visiting professor at Middlebury College and Wesleyan University.
