Der homiletische Entwurf von Gerhard Aho (1923–1987)

Anhand der Rekonstruktion des homiletischen Ansatzes von Gerhard Aho in seinem Kontext entsteht ein Bild der nordamerikanischen Predigtlehre mit ihrer eigenständigen Ausprägung im 20. Jahrhundert und der Entwicklung der new homiletic. Daran erweist sich die ungebrochene Rolle der klassischen europäischen Rhetorik wie auch deren erneute Rezeption im veränderten gesellschaftlichen Kontext. Zum homiletischen Umbruch trägt zugleich die intensiv wahrgenommene Auseinandersetzung der deutschen Theologie mit dem Wort Gottes bei.
Ahos systematische Reflektion des Dreiklangs von prinzipieller, formaler und materialer Homiletik steht für eine lutherische Tradition wissenschaftlicher Theologie und leistet einen bis heute wirksamen Beitrag zu einer transkulturellen homiletischen Theorie und Praxis.

Gerhard Aho's homiletical approach is based on his profound historical and rhetorical knowledge. Reconstructed within its American context in the last century and the rise of the "new" homiletic, it offers the reader a new perspective on the relationship between the new and the old, and of the role of rhetorics for preaching amidst some dramatic changes of society. Equally important for the homiletical revolution of his time is the input of the new hermeneutic and the preoccupation of German theology with the Word of God.
Aho represents a scholarly tradition of Lutheran theology characterized by a systematic reflection of the theology of preaching and the relationship between form and content. The influence of his work extends far beyond the boundaries of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
