Institutiones oratoriae

Sulpicius’ Institutiones oratoriae, a late antique introduction to rhetoric, is presented here in a completely new critical edition, which replaces the one edited by Halm in 1853. This new edition of the text is based on a thorough re-examination of the only surviving testimony, the 1521 Basel edition, which reproduces a lost manuscript from the library of the Spyer Cathedral. Sulpicius’spätantike Einführungsschrift in die Rhetorikwird nach Halms Ausgabe von1853 erstmals wieder kritisch ediert. Auf Basis einer Neuüberprüfung des einzigen Textzeugen, der Baseler Ausgabe von 1521, die eine verlorene Handschrift der Dombibliothek zu Speyer repräsentiert, wird der Text neu konstituiert.
