Discusses the nature of philosophical rationality and modernity.
While the articles in this book reflect not only different adventures in philosophy as well as conceptions of what philosophy itself is, there is a core around which they all turn. Each one of the authors represented here deals, in his or her own unique way, with the relationship between virtue and order. In the first section, this issue is reflected in the question of how the mind or soul has its order or disorder in relation to an order that is outside the soul, in which it knows and lives. In the second set of articles, virtue and order are seen in relation to the ethical and political community. Here, in a reflexive way that seems characteristic of the modern attitude, virtue and order are seen to turn back on themselves, and engage us in a discussion of the nature of philosophical rationality and modernity.
