"Doors in a Meadow" is a translation of a collection of poems from the Serbian Vrata u Polju by Serbian poet, Bratislav Milanovic. This work examines how Milanovic differs from many of his contemporaries by developing his own way of expressing his dissociation from, and attachment to, his times. This collection includes thirty nine recent poems by the poet, published in the last decade. Unlike many of his contemporaries, who are part of the movement of many post- communist Serbian writers who revisit the age before the Turkish invasion some six hundred years ago, and to the Orthodox religion for inspiration, in their work. Instead, Milanovic remains neutral and finds his own unique, yet moving and original way of expressing his dissociation and attachment to his times.
