The Student’s Book is a beautifully designed book which has topic-based units that focus on exams and concerns of the age group such as going to university, leaving home and future careers. There are exam sections after every two units, along with extra activity sections. This version comes with a webcode which provides access to Gateway online.
"Gateway" is an academically-rich five-level course designed to lead teenage students to success in school-leaving and university entrance exams and prepare them for university and the world of work. The course stimulates the interest of students and teachers by providing cross-curricular and intercultural content that is genuinely interesting, meaningful and thought-provoking. "Gateway" helps students prepare and practise for their school-leaving exams and equips them with lifelong learning and study skills. Taking an inductive approach to Grammar, "Gateway" revises and extends the students' active knowledge of grammar and vocabulary through a wealth of varied skills-based activities that recycle, revise, evaluate and develop language skills.

Dave Spencer began writing ELT courses for Macmillan in 1994. His latest series is Gateway, a multi-level course designed to prepare teenage students for school-leaving/university entrance exams. After studying languages at Oxford University, Dave trained to be a Secondary School teacher at the University of York. He then moved to Spain where he has been living and teaching ever since. He continues to teach Secondary students every day, currently working at Colegio Europeo Aristos in Getafe. At various stages of his career, Dave has also worked as Director of Studies at International House Serrano, Madrid (now Hyland Language Centre) and as a teacher trainer for IH London and the British Council in Madrid.
