This book evaluates trends arising in '-Omics' sciences in terms of their current and potential future application to therapeutic design and understanding of disease. Chapters consider the impact of pharmacogenomics and bioinformatics on drug development, as well as trends in genomics, as applied to understanding of neurodegenerative and lung disease, psychiatry and oncology.

Following the genome studies released in early part of this century, the advent of the -Omics sciences (genomics and pharmacogenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics) has seen the expansion of a vast knowledgebase with utility in preventing and treating disease, and improving health for all. Bioinformatics and improved pharmacogenetic understanding forge a path for improved drug discovery and design methods accounting for differences in delivery and disposition across populations.

Dr Yashwant Pathak is the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Full Professor in the College of Pharmacy, Morsani College of Medicine and College of Public Health at the University of South Florida (USF). He is an internationally recognized scholar, researcher and educator in the areas of health care education, nanotechnology, drug delivery systems and nutraceuticals.

Dr Pathak was awarded his MPharm and PhD from Nagpur University, India. He also holds an Executive MBA and Masters in Conflict Management from Sullivan University, Louisville, USA. His post-doctoral training was at Royal free Hospital London, UK, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel and University of Michigan Medical Center at Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA.

In addition to his primary roles, Dr Pathak is also Professor at  USF College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and USF College of Sustainability; Adjunct Professor at JSS University Mysore, India; holds adjunct appointments at the University of West Indies Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business, Trinidad And Tobago, and the College of Business at USF for DBA programs; and is a member of the Advisory Board for NERC (Nanotechnology Education and Research Centre) College of Engineering, USF. Prior to these current appointments, he gained 9 years of experience as Dean at USF and 17 years as faculty and researcher. He has also worked as Chair of the International Working group for USF Health and Director of the Nano Center.

Dr Pathak has over 150 research publications and over 22 edited books. He has presented his work in more than 100 national and international conferences. In the last two years he has been awarded the Fulbright Senior Scholar Core Fellowship Award 2015-2016 for Indonesia; the Endeavour Executive fellowship by Australian Government 2015 in collaboration with Deakin University; the CNPQ Brazil Government Fellowship; the Outstanding Achievement Award for Global Engagement by USF; the Outstanding faculty Award for USF March 2017; and been made a Fellow of NSF I-Corps USF 2016.
