Vehicle Dynamics: Theory and Application offers comprehensive coverage of fundamental and advanced topics in vehicle dynamics. This class-tested guide is designed for senior undergraduate and first-year graduate students pursuing mechanical and automotive engineering degrees. It covers a wide range of concepts in detail, concentrating on practical applications that enable students to understand, analyze, and optimize vehicle handling and ride dynamics. Related theorems, formal proofs, and real-world case examples are included.
The textbook is divided into four parts, covering all the essential aspects of vehicle dynamics:
- Vehicle Motion: covers tire dynamics, forward vehicle dynamics, and driveline dynamics Vehicle
- Kinematics: covers applied kinematics, applied mechanisms, steering dynamics, and suspension mechanisms
Vehicle Dynamics: covers applied dynamics, vehicle planar dynamics, and vehicle roll dynamics - Vehicle Vibration: covers applied vibrations, vehicle vibrations, and suspension optimization.
This revised edition adds an engineering perspective to each example, highlighting the practical relevance of mathematical models and helping you understand when experimental results may differ from analytical ones. New coverage includes vehicle vibrations in transient responses and the control concept in ride optimization.
Students, researchers, and practicing engineers alike will appreciate the user-friendly presentation of the science and engineering of the mechanical aspects of vehicles, emphasizing
steering, handling, ride, and related components.
Reza N. Jazar is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. from Sharif University of Technology in Nonlinear Vibrations and Applied Mathematics, his MSc in Mechanical Engineering and Robotics and his BSc in Mechanical Engineering and Internal Combustion Engines from Tehran Polytechnic. His areas of expertise include Nonlinear Dynamic Systems and Applied Mathematics. He obtained original results in non-smooth dynamic systems, applied nonlinear vibrating problems, time optimal control of dynamic systems, and mathematical modeling of vehicle dynamics stability. He authored several monographs on vehicle dynamics, robotics, dynamics, vibrations, and mathematics and published numerous professional articles, as well as several book chapters in research volumes. Most of his books have been adopted by many universities for teaching and research and by many research agencies as standard models for research results. Dr. Jazar had the pleasure of working in several Canadian, American, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Australian universities, as well as several years in the automotive industry. Working in different engineering firms and educational systems has provided him with vast experience and knowledge to publish his research on important topics in engineering and science. His unique, revolutionized style of writing helps readers to learn the topics deeply in the easiest possible way.
Dr. Jazar is a notable figure in mechanical and automotive engineering and robotics. He is known for his contributions to various areas such as vehicle dynamics, control systems, and robotics. He has authored several influential books, including Vehicle Dynamics: Theory and Application, which is widely used in academia and industry for understanding vehicle dynamics principles. He has also conducted research in areas related to autonomous vehicles and nonlinear dynamic systems. Dr. Jazar's work is highly regarded in the field and has contributed significantly to advancing the understanding and application of mechanical systems in modern technology.
