Total knee arthroplasty has seen some great improvements in prosthetic design and operative technique, with ongoing research and development in fixation, long-term radiological follow-up, biomechanical evaluation and biometerials research. In knee ligament reconstruction, there has been rapid progress in clinical practice and fundamental research by means of arthroscopic surgery and tissue transplantation.
