This book explores the potential of solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOEC) in the field of hydrogen production. It describes this technology in detail, including fundamentals, state-of-the-art the technology, materials development, current limitations, recent trends and industrial applications. It clarifies SOECs role in decarbonizing the energy sector, drawing on contributions from experts in the field.

Dr Miguel Angel Laguna-Bercero gained his degree in Inorganic Chemistry and his PhD from the University of Zaragoza, in 2001 and 2005 respectively. He has held several research positions, including at Heriot-Watt University and Imperial College London. He was a Guest Lecturer at University of Zaragoza from 2011 to 2015, and has been a Tenured Scientist at CSIC since 2016. He has participated in 25 research projects, 6 of them as Primary Inevstigator, as well as 7 industrial contracts. He is the co-author of one licensed patent, over 60 SCI papers, 2 invited reviews, three book chapters, over 200 conference papers, and 44 other publications. He is an editorial board member of "Coatings" (MDPI), "Heliyon" (Elsevier), and "Frontiers in Energy Research: Fuel Cells" (Nature Publishing Group).
