Experimental Investigation of Advanced Low-Temperature Combustion Concepts for Compression Ignition Engines
Seiten
The subject of this thesis is the fundamental investigation and evaluation of various Low-Temperature Combustion (LTC) concepts in compression ignition engines. LTC is characterized by a higher homogenization rate of the fuel-air mixture. As a result of higher homogeneity and lower peak temperatures, LTC leads to a simultaneous reduction of NOx and soot emissions while maintaining high efficiency. However, the LTC is restricted by an undesired early combustion phasing and incomplete combustion.
The aim of this thesis is to extend the operating range of real-world passenger car engines using different LTC combustion processes. Three different combustion processes are experimentally investigated namely, Premixed Charge Compression Ignition (PCCI), limitation of the maximum pressure rise rate (alpha-process), and Diesel-Dual-Fuel (DDF).
