Experimental Aspects of R&D

The workshop "Experimental aspects of R&D on Hydrogen Storage Technologies" was organised by the Institute for Energy (IE) of the Directorate General Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, in the frame of the JRC Enlargement & Integration Action. Held at the Institute in Petten (NL), it was conceived as a training/teaching event targeted at an international audience of young researchers and university students from new EU member states, EU Acceding and Candidate Countries and Associated States. Invited experts from all over Europe held lectures concerning the present and future challenges of R&D on hydrogen storage, and on related industrial and experimental technologies. Open discussion among the participants was complemented by visits to the JRC-IE testing installations for hydrogen storage tanks (GasTeF: Compressed Gas Tanks Testing Facility) and safety sensors (SenTeF: Sensors Testing Facility) and hands-on experiments at the Microstructural Analysis Laboratory and at the SolTeF (Solid-state hydrogen storage Testing Facility) for the micro- and macro-scopic characterisation of solid-state materials for hydrogen storage.
