Filling a gap between theoretical publications that treat MRI as a part of NMR methods, and a range of titles in medical MRI that only cover the particular problems encountered in imaging of the human body, this easy-to-read textbook presents MRI in a way that can be used for teaching and self-studying on both a graduate and postgraduate level. No knowledge of quantum mechanics is required, and only essential mathematical formalisms are discussed. In addition, many useful examples from various scientific fields help students to understand the basics as well as the wealth of applications involved, backed by problems and solutions on different levels, a troubleshooting section, and a special discussion of hardware components.
Siegfried Stapf has been working in the scientic field of NMR since 1991 and received his PhD in Physics at the University of Ulm, Germany, in 1996. Following a postdoctoral stay at the University of Nottingham, UK, he currently works at the RWTH Aachen, Germany and has recently been offered a professorship in Technical Physics at the TU Ilmenau. His main research interests cover the fields of molecular dynamics and order of confinded fluids and soft matter, as well as transport phenomena in complex media investigated with advanced Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging techniques.
