This book presents the basics of understanding quasi static magnetic susceptibilities. The story narrates the soundness of the mathematical generalization of the results of Ampere's work. It is written in the rationalized SI system with a minimum of mathematical equations. It answers the question: 'What is susceptible to what for creating what?' The restrained number of subjects treated allows a clear overview. Treated topics are current-current interaction, force, magnetic induction field, dia- para- ferro- and antiferro-magnetism. The book appeals to researchers, engineers and graduate students.
Dr Van den Bosch was born at Aalst (Belgium). He became "Licentiaat" in chemistry at the university of Ghent (Belgium). He studied at the university of Amsterdam tracer techniques in chemistry. In 1956 he joined SCK/CEN, a Belgian nuclear institute. His research topics mainly related with magnetism and radiation effects in solids. In 1963 he became doctor in science at the university of Ghent. He worked on superconductors. In a home made low hysteresis 10 tesla superconducting magnet he measured super-conductive critical currents for the international VAMAS Ic inter-comparison.
