We Are One is an international collaboration between tribal people, philosophers, journalists, academics, anthropologists, environmentalists and photojournalistsall brought together in support of indigenous tribes. It is both a celebration of the fragile beauty of the world's remaining tribes, and a powerful call to arms.
Our cry should be listened to by the whole worldA" - Mathambo Sesana, (San) Bushman, Botswana From the frozen taiga of Siberia to the rainforest of the Amazon and the bushland of Botswana, We Are One celebrates the extraordinary diversity of tribal peoples - their cultures, values and beliefs - and the fragile, wild beauty of the homelands to which many are still so intimately connected. This book aims to create a sense of solidarity with tribal peoples, promoting the message that they are equal to us: just as modern, just as much part of the 21st century and with just as much right to live in peace. We Are One creates a greater sense of wonder and respect for the world's tribes and their natural environments, and will emphasise the importance of what they have to teach us in terms of the many humanitarian and environmental issues inherent in their - and our - survival. We Are One is an international collaboration between tribal people, philosophers, journalists, academics, anthropologists, environmentalists and photojournalists, all brought together in support of indigenous tribes.
Contributions will cover the myriad diverse themes inherent in tribal cultures, touching upon topics such as cultural diversity, tribal languages, the eco-systems of rainforests, tribal botanical knowledge, the art and wisdom of shamans, the instinctive tribal principles of balance and sustainability, the reverence for and guardianship of Mother Earth, the traditional values of reciprocity, community spirit and collective thinking and the richly colourful festivals, ceremonies and ancestral rituals. Written contributions include Noam Chomsky, Claude Levi-Strauss, Bruce Parry, Satish Kumar, Wade Davis, Robin Hanbury-Tenison and Richard Gere, to name but a few. Likewise, a large number of award-winning photographers have agreed to allow their work to be reproduced in this book, including Sebastiao Salgado, Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Steve McCurry. We Are One is both a celebration of the fragile beauty of the world's remaining tribes, and a powerful call to arms. All royalties go to Survival International to help fund their campaigning for the rights of tribal peoples worldwide

SURVIVAL INTERNATIONAL Survival International is the only international organization today that supports tribal peoples worldwide. It was founded in 1969 and is working towards a world in which tribal peoples' diverse ways of life are understood and accepted, oppression of them is not tolerated and they are free to live their own ways of life, on their own land, in peace, freedom and security. Survival International has offices in the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, France and the Netherlands; they plan to open a US office in 2009. JOANNE EEDE writes about the environment and wilderness and explores the interconnnections between humans and nature. Her previous books include Portrait of England (Think Publishing Ltd, 2006) and Liberty and Livelihood: A Portrait of Life in Rural Britain (Travelman, 2003). She contributes articles to national newspapers and magazines on subjects ranging from the wild Przewalski horses of the Mongolian steppe, the migrating whales of the Alboran sea, the Moorish spirit of Andalucia and the sacred sites of indigenous tribes. She has produced two short films - on climate change and the renaissance of local food culture in Britain - and has collaborated on creative media projects with various environmental organisations.
