From a small Saxon hamlet to a large sprawling city, Birmingham has quite a story to tell. And within the pages of this handy and compact book, these stories are told. Stories of how Birmingham developed and stories of the people who helped develop it. Stories of its industries, how they prospered and made Birmingham famous around the world. Stories of politicians, industrialists and celebrities who were born or lived in Birmingham and stories of the not-so-famous people who worked tirelessly in its factories and workplaces; they too helped make Birmingham the city it is today. This is a book of stories, all set out chronologically from prehistoric times to the present day, which can be picked up and put down to enjoy whenever and wherever you want.

Vanessa Morgan has lived in Worcestershire all her life and as a genealogist worked for 34 years researching family and local history in Worcestershire, Birmingham and Warwickshire. As a speaker she has a repertoire of talks, which she gives to different types of groups of all sizes – history societies, family history groups, Probus, WI etc. All her talks are on either historical topics or relate to family and local history. She has written numerous articles for genealogical magazines.
