The Stoclet Palace was one of the grandest monuments of the Art Nouveau era. Klimt decorated three walls of the dining room with a mosaic frieze consisting of nine panels. Central to this Stoclet Frieze, The Tree of Life suggests the biblical Garden of Eden, the seasons, life and death and more. Its golden trunk and swirling branches were inspired by Japanese and ancient Egyptian art.
