This fantastic crafting volume shows readers how they can create full-body silhouettes from much loved photographs, and transfer them to fabric backgrounds for use as quilts and wall hangings. "Fabric Silhouettes" includes 10 easy-to-use projects, as well as practical and informative hints and tips on the techniques, fabric choices, and use of themes. This volume also gives details of how these techniques can be adapted for other crafting hobbies, such as scrap-booking.
Louise Handley, a fifth-generation Oregonian, was born and educated in Portland. She learned to sew on her mother's old treadle sewing machine. Her paternal grandmother introduced her to quilting and taught her to make strictly utilitarian quilts from used clothing and fabric scraps. As an adult, Louise pursued decorative painting and became nationally recognized as a self-taught artist and teacher of decorative art. She also refined her quilting skills and began designing and making her own quilts. She has combined her artistic and quilting skills to create many award-winning quilts. One day, while she was placing photos in her family album, the idea of fabric silhouettes came to mind. The mother of four grown children, Louise is also Grandma to four granddaughters. She lives with her husband of 48 years, Dick, in Bandon, Oregon. When she is not painting or quilting, you will find Louise in her garden, which regularly attracts gardeners, photographers, and tours. Fabric Silhouettes is her first book.
