The details are filled in by a gazetteer of interesting and well-preserved monuments. This volume looks at the archaeological heritage of Orkney, and examines the defences of the last World War back through windmills and water-mills, houses and castles, Viking-age churches and iron-age brochs, to the well-preserved houses and tombs of people who lived more than 5000 years ago.
