As this title demonstrates, it is only once you have established a grip that suits you that you are able to progress to the more advanced skills. This title uses expert advice and step-by-step instruction to guide readers through essential aspects of the game and also covers common trouble shots.
Using a combination of expert advice and step-by-step instruction Golf Skills carefully guides the reader through the most essential aspects of the game. Although the most basic skills are sometimes overlooked, it is the mastery of grip, stance, and alignment that allows a golfer to reach his true potential. As Golf Skills demonstrates, it is only once you have established a grip that suits you that you are able to progress to the more advanced skills. After examining the basic setup the authors turn to the all-important swing, as well as the vital skills of pitching, chipping and, arguably the most crucial of all, putting. While practice of these essential skills helps you to play a rewarding game, the more problematic areas have not been forgotten. The challenge of playing from uphill, downhill, and sidehill - or attempting to hit the ball from shallow water or sand bunkers - are just a few of the most common trouble shots covered. Filled with stop-motion photographs and easy-to-follow commentaries, the beginner will see exactly how to tackle some of the most tricky golf moves.
With invaluable tips and reassuring advice you will also learn how best to approach the course mentally. Golf Skills is an invaluable handbook for golfers at all levels. The reading equivalent of lessons from a pro, it will help you improve your game, avoid injuries, and correct common mistakes.

Mel Sole played on the Pro tour in his native South Africa from 1970 to 1980. During this period he discovered his love and talent for teaching golf. In 1984, Mel opened the Canadian Golf Academy in Toronto. In 1988, his longtime friend and mentor Phil Ritson hired him to head the Phil Ritson Golf School in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The school later relocated to Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club in the same state and today is recognized as one of the best in America. John Ledesma graduated from USC's journalism school in 1990. After working as a research editor for Sport magazine he was made associate editor of Petersen Publishing's Golfing magazine. In 1995 he was hired as the managing editor of GolfTips. Production credits include shows for ABC Sports, ESPN, Fox Sports, and Speedvision. As a freelance journalist he has worked on Men's Health, Links, and Real Edge. He has contributed on The PGA Tour's Complete Book of Golf and The Golf Dictionary, both with respected golf writer Michael Corcoran.
