What is the single greatest gift you can give your child? Vibrant good health, of course. But in a world where children as young as ten are being diagnosed with early signs of heart disease, where up to a third of yound children at an infant school maybe taking Ritalin, a drug that has been banned in Sweden, and where computers, not dogs, are a child's best friend, how do you get it right? In this book, award-winning Sunday Times journalist and health writer Susan Clark draws upon her experience and scientific research to offer every parent the opportunity to make sound, confident decisions that should benefit their children's health now and in the future. As she highlights the health hazards that plague so many youngsters, she reveals the benefits of vitamins, herbs and homeopathic treatments - and focuses on a range of simple but effective hands-on therapies, such as yoga and infant massage. She also aims to unravel the complex and often contradictory information that appears in the media, she details the key stages of development, from newborn to young adulthood, and provides parents with an easy-to-follow A-Z guide on how to treat over 50 everyday complaints.
Offering practical advice and essential information, this book provides a useful health guide for parents.
Susan Clark was voted Health Journalist of the Year 2000 and was headhunted by the Sunday Times and invited to be their first ever Health and Fitness editor. It was here that she launched their ground-breaking Lifestyle section and her hugely popular 'What's the Alternative?' column. Susan also writes the Agony Aunt column for Chat magazine - Britain's fastest growing weekly magazine - is the alternative health columnist on the Sainsbury Magazine, and is the resident writer on Complementary Health for IPCs BeMe.com (which attracts some 3 million hits every month). She is also a regular contributor to Marie Claire and PS magazines and her column for The Irish Examiner appears weekly. Susan has broken all audience-response records with her guest appearances on national radio (after her last contribution to the Jimmy Young Show over 75,000 listeners called in to ask for her free information sheet) and is a popular speaker at conferences around the UK. She acts as a consultant to several herbal companies and The Health Food Manufacturers' Association (HFMA). Her two previous books, The Vitality Cookbook and What Really Works - The Insider's Guide to Natural Health were published by HarperCollins. Susan lives in Oxfordshire with her husband, young daughter, a brood of rare Buff Couchin hens and a very disobedient Jack Russell terrier.
