Gulf-Mirage 1967 to 1982
Veloce (Verlag)
978-1-78711-175-2 (ISBN)
This book details the origin and history of the Mirage sports cars, designed by the British-based John Wyer Automotive firm to contest the various versions of the World Sports Car Championship between 1967 and 1975, funded by the Gulf Oil Corporation. The cars began as developments of the Ford GT40, but they soon assumed their own identity. After 1975, the Mirage was no longer in John Wyer hands, but the name lived on, and the marque remained a significant player in the World Championship for some years. This book includes the developmental and race history, with a full list of all events and individual chassis numbers.
Ed McDonough is a renowned and experienced motoring writer; this is his 11th book about the history of motorsport. He was European Editor of Vintage Racecar magazine, and one of the few journalists in the privileged position of being able to test and race the historic machinery he writes about. He has raced for over forty years, still competing in international and historic events (several of his books have featured reports from his own test drives). Ed also does the radio commentary at Goodwood, Monaco and American events, and is Track Tester for online historic motoring magazine Retro-Speed. Ed lives in Northampton, England.
