A key resource for overcoming stuttering from the founder of a world-renowned programme.
The McGuire Programme was founded in 1994 by Dave McGuire and is now an international organisation run by people who stutter to help other people who stutter. Its combination of physical techniques and mental strategies that deal with the fear of stuttering, as well as developing an assertive approach to the problem, has helped thousands of people to control their stutter and to get good at the sport of speaking.
Taking the reader through the various barriers, mental, physical and emotional, to speech, Beyond Stuttering comprehensively teaches the reader a range of techniques for dealing with their stutter and maintaining power over it. Though you can never get rid of a stutter for good, Dave McGuire arms the stutterer with tools for crises and methods for keeping a stutter at bay. The book contains testimony from a range of those helped over the years by the programme and a handy reading list.
The McGuire method helps a stutterer to begin to enjoy, rather than dread, speaking. At last, here is a method that can bring real help to those affected by a problem that can destroy careers and relationships. Now in a revised and updated edition, here is the first step towards gaining control of life.

In 1994 at the age of 45, after a lifetime of dealing with the debilitating effects of a severe stammer, Dave McGuire developed a method based on breathing done by many opera singers (called "Costal Breathing") and a traditional psychological approach known as 'non-avoidance'. This method was expanded on in Beyond Stuttering,a handbook for the techniques used in his world-renowned programme. Dave McGuire programmes have since been established in the UK, Ireland, Norway, Holland, Germany, Australia/New Zealand, South Africa, the United States/Canada, Mexico, India, Dubai and Turkey.
