In 2013 the Hamburgische Schiffbau-Versuchsanstalt (HSVA) celebrates its 100th anniversary. This book commemorates its maritime research, innovation and progress driven by our clients and their projects. This book is not a collection of scientific papers, but is an enjoyable celebration of model testing and the resulting products ships and maritime structures in stormy seas and freezing waters.
HSVA@100 starts in the far past with the first English/ Swedish tank towing of experiments of Charles Sheldon and Frederik Chapman, introduces William Froude`s ground breaking work and moves on into the more recent history of the 1900-1960`s before entering today`s sophisticated world of maritime research.
HSVA@100 then opens up into its main sections comprising model testing in its ice, tank and towing tank facilities as well as in the cavitation tunnels.
HSVA@100 is lavishly illustrated with images from company facilities set against finished products-ships, boats and water structures of every kind and size; the copy is an accolade to the whole maritime industry designers, builders, owners, operators and suppliers.
