Suitable for long-distance runners (5,000 metres to the Marathon) and their coaches. This title is practically based on sound principles, which have been tried and tested repeatedly.
High Performance Long Distance Running is a book for serious long-distance runners from 5,000 metres to the marathon. It covers every aspect of the preparation required by an elite-performance athlete and the author argues that absolutely nothing should be left to chance. All the following key essentials are covered:
Training - Key sessions and progressions, levels of training intensity, recoveries, technique, maximum volume uptake, running economy, lactate threshold, lactate turning point, training schedules, schedules race strategies and tactics.
Preparation - Planning, progressions, training plans, peaking, altitude training, warm weather training, heat, humidity, time travel scientific testing, time management, energy replacement, hydration and nutrition and carbo-loading.·Conditioning - Resistance training, circuit training, stage training, core stability, weight training, training for power, strength-endurance and mobility.·
Injury Prevention - Causes of injury, staleness and illness through awareness of rest, regeneration, massage, hydrotherapy, myofascial release, foam rollers, triad, recovery and nutritional strategies and much more.
