GUNTHER EYCK, Distinguished Adjunct Professor in the School of International Service at the American University, has specialized in modern European history and contemporary foreign policies of West European countries./e Professor Eyck's teaching experience spans half a century and has been augmented by 27 years of service with the U.S. Government. His books include The Benelux Countries: A Historical Survey (1959) and Loyal Rebels: The Tyrolean Uprising of 1809 (1986), and he has written numerous articles on 19th- and 20th-century European history and current events in Western Europe.
