A handbook of the literary associations of buildings and districts in Great Britain and Ireland, containing facts and anecdotes. The index of over 900 authors enables the reader to follow a writer's career and discover which of his works are linked to specific localities.
This handbook of the literary associations of many cities, towns, villages, houses, castles, schools, inns and districts in Great Britain and Ireland contains facts and anecdotes: how Charlotte Bronte was so overcome by her first sight of the sea at Bridlington that she burst into tears and how William Cobbett hurried through Deal in Kent in 1823, finding it a 'villainous' place. There is a list of place-names with reference to maps at the end of the book and a description of the geographical position of each place. The index of authors includes over 900 writers (living writers have been excluded), providing a key to the entries in the main text and enabling the reader to follow a writer's career from place to place and to discover which of his works are linked to specific localities.
