All are described in detail and are accompanied by a guide to Roman cuisine and wine. The guide then moves on to the sights and the author takes the reader to the Rome of the Caesars and Michelangelo. He describes relaxing journeys through the streets, piazzas and alleyways of the Eternal City taking in each architectural marvel waiting around each corner and then setting it within its historical background. The guide also contains a number of excursions from the city, including Naples, the Amalfi Coast, Bari, Capri, Ischia, Lecce and Sicily. All of these receive the same thorough treatment, with coverage of local sights, hotels and restaurants.
