Every year, a group of competitors take part in the Yukon Quest, a 1025-mile long dog-sled race. This is is the tale of journalist John Balzar's experiences of the race, taking place in the winter season of extreme cold and 17 hour nights.
Every year, equipped with specialist equipment and a team of huskies, an intrepid group of highly-skilled competitors penetrates the sub-arctic. It is winter, a season of extreme cold and 17-hour nights, where the aurora borealis flames overhead, the snow underfoot is so crystalline that it chafes like sandpaper and where every incoming breath is so cold it burns like fire. This is the Yukon Territory and the start of the annual Yukon Quest, a 1025-mile long dog-sled race which ends in Alaska.
Award-winning journalist John Balzar decided that he too must take part in this incredible, epic event. Beautifully written, this is his astonishing story ...
