Mental Health Acts:

The Mental Health Acts Annotated and Consolidated: Case Law and Commentary provides persons who use mental health services, mental health professionals, legal practitioners and other stakeholders with a comprehensive overview of the legislation and recently enacted amending legislation. The annotation also provides commentary on the relevant case law and existing recommendations for law reform.
Since the Mental Health Act 2001 was enacted and commenced there have been a number of important amendments to the legislation, notably:

About the Authors
Dr Mary Keys is a leading authority on mental health law and policy. She worked as a mental health social worker in mental health services in Ireland and in the United Kingdom before becoming a lecturer in the School of Law, NUI Galway. She was awarded a PhD by the Cardiff University Law School, University of Wales, in 2006 on the topic of human rights and mental health law. She served serving two terms as a member of the Mental Health Commission, appointed as the representative of the public interest.

Dr Catriona Moloney is a Lecturer in Disability Law at the Centre for Disability Law and Policy, National University of Ireland Galway and previously lectured at the University of Limerick. She holds a Bachelor of Civil Law and an LLM in Public Law and was awarded her PhD entitled Empowering Children and Young People: An Access to Justice Assessment of Mental Health Law and Policy at the School of Law, NUI Galway.

Dr Charles O'Mahony is the Head of the School of Law at NUI Galway. He holds LLM degrees from both University College London and NUI Galway and was awarded his PhD in 2013 for research in the area of human rights of defendants and offenders with mental health problems and with intellectual disability. He previously worked as Amnesty International Ireland's Legal Officer on its influential mental health campaign and as a legal researcher for the Law Reform Commission of Ireland.
