Cities worldwide are at a crossroads, facing the pressing need to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. The impacts of climate change, economic shifts, and population growth are undeniable, demanding a paradigm shift in urban development. The conventional approaches fall short in creating spaces that endure and flourish in the face of adversity. The challenge is to reimagine cities as more than concrete jungles, integrating green spaces, flexibility, and community well-being into their DNA. Insights on Resiliency and Urban Development charts the course for a resilient urban future. In its pages, government leaders, architects, urban planners, and citizens unite to forge a comprehensive guide for developing urban 'sanctuaries.' This book seamlessly weaves together disciplines like architecture, urban design, planning, sustainability, and community development, offering not just theoretical groundwork but practical strategies illustrated with vibrant case studies. It empowers individuals with the knowledge to build cities that not only withstand the challenges of our time but actively thrive amidst them. Insights on Resiliency and Urban Development stands as an invaluable resource for academics, architects, urban planners, quantity surveyors, and all stakeholders invested in the future of our cities. By dissecting the complexities of architecture and urban planning, laying the foundation for a profound understanding of sustainable urban development. Backed by compelling case studies, it guides the transformation of cities into robust, sustainable sanctuaries and emphasizes the pivotal role of community involvement in fostering inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities.

Ungku Norani Sonet is an architecture and urbanism senior lecturer at Taylor's University. After several years of architectural practise, she opted to pursue postgraduate studies and finished her PhD research. Her primary area of interest in architecture education is the responsive architectural design approach to local context and identity. In addition to the responsive design approach, she is particularly interested in doing research on public participation exercises in development frameworks. Her current research delves deeper to increase public involvement toward a holistic approach of sustainable built environment. Tamil Salvi Mari is a Senior Lecturer in Architecture, at Taylor’s University. Salvi’s research area revolves around investigating the humane design-the interaction between humans, the built environment, and the natural environment, focusing on current societal and environmental needs. Thus, she is interested in exploring ways in the process of designing a better living/working environment to accommodate the elements of humane design and tapping into nature not only for the resources but also as the inspiration. Her research interests are also shaped by the emerging trends of sustainability in multi-story residential/office buildings in urban areas focusing on wellbeing, carbon footprint, alternative building materials, and exploring the potential of vertical/urban farming to mitigate urban heat island issues, operational energy and to promote social sustainability.
