Engineering of Power Plant and Industrial Cooling Water Systems
CRC Press (Verlag)
978-1-032-00039-8 (ISBN)
This book provides a reference to analysis techniques of common cooling water system problems and a historical perspective on solutions to chronic cooling water system problems, such as corrosion and biofouling.
It covers best design practices for cooling water systems that are required to support the operation of all electric power plants. Plant engineers will gain better understanding of the practical issues associated with their cooling water systems and new designs or modifications of their systems should consider the actual challenges to the systems.
The book is intended for graduate students and practicing engineers working in both nuclear and fossil power plants and industrial facilities that use large amounts of cooling water.
Charles F. (Chuck) Bowman, P.E., is the President of Chuck Bowman Associates, Inc. (CBA), an engineering consulting firm serving the electric power industry since 1994. Chuck received his BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, and he is a registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee. Chuck Bowman Associates, Inc. specializes in thermal performance analysis of electric power generating cycles and related fields, including the design and analysis of heat exchangers, cooling towers, spray ponds, cooling water systems, etc. Before forming Chuck Bowman Associates, Inc., Chuck was with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for 28 years. Prior to his retirement from TVA, he was the Senior Engineering Specialist for thermal performance in TVA's Corporate Engineering Office. He has served as a consultant to the Electric Power Research Institute and on ASME committees that authored PTC 23.1 – 1983, Code on Spray Cooling Systems and PTC 12.5 - 2000, Single Phase Heat Exchangers. Chuck was also a contributing editor to the latest edition of the Marks’ Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers. Seth N. Bowman received his BS and MS degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He currently serves as the Manager of the Issues Management organization at the Y-12 National Security Complex, managed and operated by Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC. In prior roles, Seth has been responsible for the assessment function for the Engineering Division at Y-12, and he also served as a Shift Technical Adviser and Shift Manager for Building 9212.
