The construction of the Nachtigal hydroelectric power station has had an impact on the biodiversity of the Sanaga River in general, and aquatic plants in particular. Successive environmental impact studies were carried out, and compensatory measures ultimately proved to be the ultimate solutions for conserving the aquatic biodiversity impacted by the project. Among these measures, the search for new populations of species threatened by the project was of paramount importance, particularly those carried out in a geographical environment similar to that of the dam project. This is why the objective was to carry out an inventory of aquatic plants in the Mpem et Djim National Park, in order to offset the impact of the Nachtigal project on the biodiversity of the Sanaga River. The Mpem et Djim National Park is a forest-savannah transition zone. The park is located in the Yoko district and is bordered almost entirely by the Mpem and Djim rivers, which are tributaries of the Mbam in the Sanaga basin.
