This book presents peer-reviewed articles from the 3rd International Conference on Biomass Utilization and Sustainable Energy 2023 (ICoBiomasSE 2023), Malaysia. The theme of the conference "Advancing Circular Economy Towards Academic-Industrial Sustainability" has been chosen in consideration of the emergence of circular economy concepts in the field of biomass innovation towards sustainable development. The contents are broadly divided into five parts: (1) sustainable biomass resources for decarbonising the economy, (2) biomass conversion technologies for bioenergy and biofuels, (3) biomass conversion to intermediates and products, (4) bioeconomy sustainability, impacts, and policies, and (5) bioenergy integration. It provides a platform to college or graduate students, professionals, researchers, academicians, policy makers, and industries working in the areas of biomass utilization and sustainable energy to solve long-standing environmental issues for healthier planet. It may also be of interests for environmentalist and materialists who work on planning, engineering, and management fields.

Dr. Hui Lin Ong is currently Associate Professor at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia. She obtained her Ph.D. majoring in Advanced Materials, from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia in 2010. Her research interests are in the areas of nanomaterials from agricultural waste and polymer-based nanocomposites for packaging, membranes, and energy storage applications. Dr. Siti Jamilah Hanim Mohd Yusof is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Perlis, Malaysia. She obtained her Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia. Her field of interests is pretreatment technologies and biomass utilization. Dr. Khairul Farihan is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology specializing in phytochemistry and natural product research. She obtained her Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Massey University, New Zealand. Dr. Ahmad Anas Nagoor Gunny is Associate Professor specializing in the area of biomass conversion and utilization in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering & Technology, University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and Head of the Centre of Excellence for Biomass Utilization (CoEBU), UniMAP. Prior to joining UniMAP, he was working as Bioprocess Engineer in one of biomanufacturing industries for several years. His research interests are in bioresources processing and utilization in both local and international journal. Dr. Rahimah Othman graduated with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Loughborough, UK, and pursued her postdoctoral research at the University of New South Wales, Australia (USW), Sydney, Australia. Since 2010, she has been at the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia, where she is now serving as a senior lecture in the Chemical Engineering Programme, Faculty of Engineering and Chemical Technology. Her specialization is in Chemical Process Engineering with the area of functional-engineered micro/nano-particles production, herbal extraction, polymerization, micromixing membrane, biodiesel treatment, and separation.
