This book presents part of the proceedings of the Manufacturing and Materials track of the iM3F 2021 conference held in Malaysia. This collection of articles deliberates on the key challenges and trends related to manufacturing as well as materials engineering and technology in setting the stage for the world in embracing the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It presents recent findings with regard to manufacturing and materials that are pertinent toward the realizations and ultimately the embodiment of Industry 4.0, with contributions from both industry and academia.



Dr Amiril Sahab Abdul Sani graduated as Diplom-Ingenieur (FH) in Mechanical Engineering, Minor: Automotive Engineering from University of Applied Sciences Bingen, Germany in 2010. He received his MSc. (Materials Sciences and Manufacturing Engineering) from University of Kaiserslautern, Germany in 2014 and further studied at University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia by 2018 in Mechanical Engineering (Metal Separating Technology using bio-based lubricants). He does research in Metal Machining Processes, Tribology and Sustainability Assessment in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. His current interests include the production of bio-based metalworking fluids, ionic liquids as additives, nano-lubricants and minimum quantity lubrication technique as well as other related sustainable manufacturing projects.

Dr Muhammed Nafis Osman Zahid graduated in B.Eng (Hons.) Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2006. He received M.Eng.Sc. (Manufacturing Engineering and Management), University of New South Wales in 2008 and further studied at Loughborough, United Kingdom by 2015 in the field of Machining Process Planning and CAD/CAM. Currently, he is entrusted as a Deputy Dean of Academic and Student Affairs in Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang.

Dr Mohamad Rusydi Mohamad Yasin graduated in B.Eng (Hons.) (Mechanical) from the University of Auckland in 2010. He later on pursued his M.Eng (Mechanical) at the University of Auckland  and graduated in 2012. In 2019, he received his PhD from Purdue University, USA in the field of metal processing. He was formerly a mechanical engineering in R&D department at Texas Instruments Malaysia, where he acquired an interest in material science. He is currently a senior lecturer at Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering of UMP, focusing his research on metal processing techniques.

Dr. Siti Zubaidah Ismail is a Senior Lecturer in Manufacturing Systems at the Universiti Malaysia Pahang. She received her PhD from Loughborough University in 2016. She holds a Master of Engineering Technology (Manufacturing) (by research) and Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Hons.) in Product Design from Universiti Kuala Lumpur Institute of Product Design And Manufacturing, and Industrial Diploma in Production Technology Specialising in Tool and Die Technology from German Malaysian Institute. Her research focuses on product-service systems inventory control strategy and formulation in particular the development, deployment and alignment of manufacturing organisation's practices and policies. She has worked on the operation of different manufacturing practices and corporate strategies from metal and plastic fabrication, product design and production and operation management as a technologist, a research assistant, a tutor and a lecturer in Malaysia such as Shell Malaysia, TPM Engineering Malaysia and Universiti Kuala Lumpur Institute of Product Design and Manufacturing.

Dr. Mohd Zairulnizam Bin Mohd Zawawi graduated in B.Eng. Tech. (Tool and Die) at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn, Malaysia in 2005. He received M.Sc (Manufacturing system), from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2010 and Phd in Mechanical Engineering from Yonsei University, South Korea by 2019 focusing on micro/nano fabrication technology. He's currently a Senior Lecturer at Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronics Engineering Technology at Universiti Malaysia Pahang teaching CAD/CAM /CAE related courses, machining and advanced manufacturing courses.

Dr Ahmad Rosli Abdul Manaf graduated in Dip. Tech. (Mould Tech.) from German Malaysian Institute in 2000. He did his B. Tech. (Tool and Die Tech.) at Universiti Tun Hussien Onn in 2006 and completing his M.Eng.Sc at the Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2010. In 2017, he graduated from the Keio University, Japan with specialization in Precision and Micro Lens Forming. Currently, he is a senior lecturer in Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang.

Dr. Siti Nadiah binti Mohd Saffe is a senior lecturer within the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronics Engineering Technology, the Universiti Malaysia Pahang. She graduated in Bachelor Degree in Mechanical System Engineering from the University of Takushoku, Japan in 2010. In 2012, she received her Master in Mechanical System Engineering from the same university. Later on, she pursued her PhD in the Tokushima Universiti, Japan and received her doctor of Engineering in Intelligent Structures and Mechanics Systems Engineering in 2015. Her primary research activities involve the area of manufacturing process (e.g. sheet metal forming, machining, advanced manufacturing).

Dr. Radhiyah Abd. Aziz graduated in B.Eng (Hons.) (Materials) from the International Islamic University of Malaysia in 2007. She later on pursued her M.Sc (Materials) at the International Islamic University of Malaysia  and graduated in 2010. In 2016, she received her PhD from Universiti Malaysia Pahang, in the field of Advanced Materials. She was formerly an associate researcher in R&D department at Advanced Materials Research Centre (AMREC) of SIRIM Berhad Malaysia, where she acquired an interest in the research of energy storage devices. She is currently a senior lecturer at Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology of UMP, focusing her research on the advancement of electrode materials for energy storage devices and also on the development of nanofluid for various applications.

Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Faiz Mohd Turan is currently the Dean of Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang. He holds Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). Dr. Faiz is a Registered Professional Engineer in Electronics with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, Chartered Engineer in Mechanical with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers UK, and Professional Technologist in Manufacturing & Industrial Technology with the Malaysia Board of Technologists. He has more than 16 years of working experience in manufacturing particularly in design with several multinational companies in Japan and Malaysia before joining academia. He has authored more than 50 technical papers and received more than 30 innovation awards nationally and internationally
