Reviewing general biochemistry and then discussing biochemistry specific to certain ocular tissues, this book includes examples of biochemical pathology, disease processes, and pharmacologic applications throughout.
This book has been written in response to the growing need for a concise source of information specific to ocular biochemistry. Since the early 1990s, National Board exams have included an increasing percentage of questions on biochemistry. Correspondingly, biochemistry is now taught as an independent course at many schools rather than as part of the curriculum covered in first/second year anatomy/physiology courses. Modeled on the syllabus used in his course on ocular biochemistry, for each chapter the author reviews general biochemistry and then discusses biochemistry specific to certain ocular tissues. Examples of biochemical pathology, disease processes, and pharmacologic applications provide depth and help lay the foundation for more clinically orientated courses in pharmacology, physiology, and pathology.

Proteins; enzymes; carbohydrates; lipids; nucleic acids; hormones; neurotransmitters and neurotransmission; immunochemistry.
