The book is largely organized by regions of the world that have made a particularly rich contribution to these themes, but also includes chapters on specific time periods, such as the Dark Ages and Renaissance, which heralded important strides in the development of veterinary medicine. The book includes 500 exquisite art pieces in a variety of media, approximately 50 percent in full colour. In addition, art has been taken from worldwide sources, including many veterinary schools. Content has been reviewed by some of the top veterinary and animal historians in the world.
