Asgard System Description

There is a growing demand for reliable, fast, and automatic analysis of natural disaster events based on models run through a Geographical Information System (GIS). Asgard is a highly scalable, distributed Java application that obtains raw data on various kinds of disaster from public, open sources, runs the appropriate GIS model, and produces reports that can be obtained as RSS news feeds, and XML documents. Asgard can also send out e-mail, fax and SMS alerts to subscribers about disasters. Asgard is designed to be robust and reliable; it runs continuously unattended, having very little need for operator intervention.
