Neurodegenerative diseases cast a long shadow over millions of lives, stealing memories, independence, and futures. This book investigates deep into the intricacies of small molecules, exploring their potential to unravel the mysteries of neurodegenerative diseases and pave the way for innovative therapeutic interventions.
Neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's, cast a long shadow over millions of lives, stealing memories, independence, and futures. The rising tide of these age-related disorders threatens to overwhelm healthcare systems worldwide, prompting an urgent search for effective treatments. While current options offer temporary relief, they fail to halt the relentless march of these devastating conditions. However, a beacon of hope shines at the intersection of cutting-edge neuroscience and the world of small molecules. These tiny chemical warriors, with their inherent advantages of cost-effectiveness, scalability, and diverse functionalities, are emerging as powerful weapons in the fight against neurodegeneration. This book stands as a testament to this increasing revolution. It investigates deep into the intricacies of small molecules, exploring their potential to unravel the mysteries of neurodegenerative diseases and pave the way for innovative therapeutic interventions.

Dr. Nawab John Dar is at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California, where he is part of a research group led by Professor Pamela Maher. His research journey began after graduating from the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine in India, and he has since been dedicated to advancing the understanding of neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Dar's work focuses on exploring the neuroprotective potential of bioactive compounds and investigating the role of oxytosis/ferroptosis in Alzheimer’s disease. His goal is to identify targets for effective therapies against Alzheimer’s. Beyond his scientific endeavors, Dr. Dar is a committed educator and advocate for raising awareness about neurodegenerative diseases, emphasizing the importance of small molecules in targeting various aspects of neurodegeneration. His work not only sheds light on the potential of these molecules but also offers hope for effective treatments for millions affected by these conditions. Dr. Shahnawaz Ali Bhat is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, India. Currently his research program focuses on deciphering the molecular and cellular processes/pathways involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases and metabolic disorders. Further, he is also interested in neuropharmacological and neurotoxicological studies to screen or identify various bioactive molecules for effective prevention of neurodegenerative diseases and hypertension-induced neurodegeneration.
