Prevalence of TMD in high school teachers in Salvador-BA

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a collective term related to a group of musculoskeletal and joint problems that affect the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and associated structures. The etiology of temporomandibular dysfunction is associated with various factors, such as physical alterations, stress, emotional problems, as well as psychosocial and behavioural alterations. Teaching work has some initiating, perpetuating and predisposing factors, such as workload, length of service and socioeconomic aspects. There are gaps in information about the prevalence of TMD in teachers. The aim of this study is to investigate the presence of TMD in this population and verify the association with socio-demographic factors and working conditions, in order to propose effective measures for controlling and treating these alterations.
