Physical Regulation of Skeletal Repair explores basic and clinical information on the regulation of skeletal repair by biologically active physical agents, including mechanical strain, ultrasound, and electrical energy. Physical agents increase the synthesis and organization of extracellular matrix in bone repair and stimulate gene expression for structural extracellular matrix proteins. They also stimulate gene expression and synthesis of signaling proteins, including growth factors. PRSR also explores biophysical agents and related technologies for their relevance to repair of cartilage and bone.
