Help Teens Become Their Own Change-Agents
The fourth edition of Teen Intervene provides an easily administered, low-cost SBIRT program that helps teens self-identify a substance use disorder, provides a brief plan for intervention, and guides the referral to treatment.
Teen Intervene is designed expressly for young people ages 12-19 who display the early stages of substance use problems. Tested, time-efficient and evidence-based, the program is ideal for education, mental health, youth treatment and juvenile justice settings.
Because adolescents now vape nicotine more frequently than they use any other tobacco product, this fourth edition of Teen Intervene includes a separate three-session module that focuses on this topic and the concerns unique to vaping.
The goal of Teen Intervene is to help the teen become their own agent of change by:
Deciding for themselves the pros and cons of use
Identifying the reasons why they use
Learning new skills that promote a substance-free lifestyle and other healthier behaviors
Taking responsibility for self-change
Powered by stages of change theory, motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy, Teen Intervene gives young people insight into their unhealthy choices around substance use and a self-identified off-ramp from increasingly high-risk behaviors.
Teen Intervene offers a full screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) approach and complies with DSM-5.
The fourth edition of Teen Intervene has been expanded to:
Use gender neutral language
Comprehensively address nicotine and vaping with an additional second full module that is completely focused on this topic and is research-informed
Discuss in detail the discrepancies and perception of risk with vaping attitudes and cannabis attitudes, especially in younger student populations
The program features a robust facilitator's guide that outlines each session includes background information on the motivational models and the SBIRT process, and lists insurance codes for billing. In addition, detailed scripts for sessions are provided in the guided interviews and discussions. Teen and parent/family resources include the most current information available on a variety of drugs and their side effects.
