This book provides a concise overview of emerging technologies in the field of modern neuroimaging. Fundamental principles of the main imaging modalities are described as well as advanced imaging techniqes including diffusion weighted imaging, perfusion imaging, arterial spin labeling, diffusion tensor imaging, intravoxel incoherent motion, MR spectroscopy, functional MRI, and artificial intelligence. The physical concepts underlying each imaging technique are carefully and clearly explained in a way suited to a medical audience without prior technical knowledge. In addition, the clinical applications of the various techniques are described with the aid of illustrative clinical examples. Helpful background information is also presented on the core principles of MRI and the evolution of neuroimaging, and important references to current medical research are highlighted. The book will meet the needs of a range of non-technological professionals with an interest in advanced neuroimaging, including radiology researchers and clinicians in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, and psychiatry.

Manoj Mannil is Senior Consultant for Diagnostic Neuroradiology at the University Hospital of Munster, Germany. After his medical education at the Georg-August University Goettingen, Germany, he obtained his doctorate (Dr. med.) at the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine in Germany. He completed a Master of Science in Advanced Neuroimaging from the University College London, UK. His residency in General Radiology was performed at the City Hospital Triemli and the University Hospital of Zurich in Switzerland. He completed his fellowship training in Neuroradiology at the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. His teaching appointments in Germany and Switzerland, focus on all aspects of clinical Radiology. His research work focuses on advanced neuroimaging techniques, with special interest in artificial intelligence and Radiomics. Sebastian Winklhofer is a neuroradiologist at the Department of Neuroradiology at the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. He received his medical degree from the RWTH Aachen, Germany (2008) and completed his residency in radiology and his fellowship in neuroradiology at the University Hospital Zurich. He spent one year at the University of California, San Francisco for a research fellowship focused on advanced techniques in computed tomography. Next to his doctoral thesis in radiology, he received the "Venia Legendi" (Privatdozent) for radiology from the University of Zurich. His clinical work is focusing on head and neck imaging and on oncological and vascular diseases of the CNS. Ongoing research projects include the application of new imaging techniques such as dual-energy CT or intravoxel incoherent motion imaging. Among other awards, Dr. Winklhofer received the RSNA Trainee Research Prize in 2012 and the Peter Huber Prize 2017 of the Swiss Society of Neuroradiology.

"The text is easy to read and digest, and the graphics are high quality and complement the text well. ... It would be most suited to students, researchers and radiographers with an interest in neuroimaging, and clinicians who would like a better understanding of the neuroimaging techniques that are potentially available to them." (Ben Statton, RAD Magazine, April, 2021)
